Shifting Perspectives: An Ulduar class preview, part 3-2

MIMIRON
Mimiron is…kind of complicated to describe. Suffice it to say that it’s a four-phase fight with different abilities to worry about on each phase. Short of writing a 3,000-word tract on Mimiron alone, I’m simply going to refer you here and here, and we’ll proceed under the assumption that you have a basic familiarity with [...]

Shifting Perspectives: An Ulduar class preview, part 3

Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting Druids and those who group with them. This week, as other people continue their march through Ulduar, I continue to ask myself if it wouldn’t be more cost-effective in the long run just to take my ailing graphics card out behind the woodshed and end its pathetic misery [...]

All the World’s a Stage: So you want to be an Alliance Rogue

This installment of All the World’s a Stage is the twenty-fourth in a series of roleplaying guides in which we find out all the background information you need to roleplay a particular race or class well, without embarrassing yourself.
Many of the most famous rogues outside of the Warcraft setting have been nuanced and exciting [...]

The Light and How to Swing It: Raiding and the Retadin

I mentioned it the last time, but more than ever, it’s a good time to be a Paladin. We’re not perfect yet, and indeed the class needs a little more tweaking, but it’s incredibly playable right now and is a lot of fun. We’ve always had traditional roles of tanking and healing for Paladins, but [...]

Lichborne: PvE Gems for Death Knights

Welcome to Lichborne, your weekly dose of Death Knight discussion.
Now that we’ve covered most standard pemutations of gear gathering in past Lichborne columns, I figured this week would be a good time to start talking about taking the extra steps to really trick out your gear. This week, will focus on gems. Not only will [...]

Lichborne: Gearing up to tank Naxxramas

Welcome to Lichborne, The weekly Death Knight column, where your host is recruiting only the most pro critters for his raiding team.

So by now, I’m sure many of you Death Knights have managed to follow our last tanking gear guide and have put together a pretty decent tank set that’s gotten them through a few [...]

Ready Check: Guide to Naxxramas

Ready Check is a weekly column focusing on successful raiding for the serious raider. Hardcore or casual, ZA or Sunwell Plateau, everyone can get in on the action and down some bosses. This week, we unwisely decide to give the column to Allison “Oops, I forgot my frost resist” Robert. Not that you actually need [...]

The Light and How to Swing It: Shine on! A 2008 review

What a great year 2008 has been for Paladins. While 3.0 overhauled the game in general, the class was retooled throughout the year, particularly Retribution, and became one of the most fun classes to play. In fact, Paladin popularity, while never a problem, rose incredibly. Even as I mourn the decline of Warlocks, I shudder at all the Paladins [...]

Lichborne: Howling Blast and other patch 3.0.8 follies

Welcome to Lichborne, WoW Insider’s weekly Death Knight column.
Yeah, I definitely have to put out a mea culpa here. Alas, Lichborne is a little bit late again. I have a valid excuse, I swear. It involved a flaming plum pudding, a flailing geist, and a sudden snowstorm at the Shadow Vault over in Icecrown. But [...]

Totem Talk: Wrath faction gear for Shamans

One of the ways to gear up as you level and prepare for endgame in Wrath of the Lich King is by making use of the reputation gained via questing for various factions in Northrend. In addition to the main Alliance or Horde factions the Alliance Vanguard and Horde Expedition, there are a variety of [...]

Addon Spotlight: Atlasloot Enhanced updated for Wrath

That’s right, Atlasloot Enhanced has been updated to include the Northrend instances and raid. Personally, I’ve been waiting to be able to browse and try-on the gear from the new dungeons and raids since the expansion launched.
Atlasloot Enhanced is absolutely one of my must-have addons, and I’ve watched it grow with loving admiration since the [...]

Scattered Shots: Reputation rewards for Hunters in Wrath of the Lich King

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! You didn’t think Scattered Shots was taking the day off, did you? Hopefully, there’s enough of you who aren’t completely zonked out on turkey, ham, or beef to read this.
So by now, I figure most of you are well on your way to 80, and are probably starting to ask yourself: Which [...]

Ready Check: Preparing for Wrath raiding

Ready Check is a weekly column focusing on successful raiding for the serious raider. Hardcore or casual, ZA or Sunwell Plateau, everyone can get in on the action and down some bosses. This week, we venture into new (well, sort of) territory…
While many people are taking a leisurely stroll towards 80, seeing the sights and [...]

The Light and How to Swing It: Starting zone upgrades in Northrend

Did you pack well enough for the cold? Allie gave great advice on some basic things we need while we’re in Northrend, like food and other consumables. Depending on your level of progression or gear, your approach to questing or leveling out here will vary quite a bit. For well-geared players, it’ll be a breeze [...]

Lichborne: Death Knight Tanking

Welcome to the first post-Wrath installment of Lichborne, the weekly Death Knight column. Join Daniel Whitcomb on the bleeding edge of a new and untried class.
So Wrath is upon us, and we can finally start leveling our Death Knights on the live servers. That’s right, this time it’s for keeps. I’m pretty excited about that. [...]

Ask a Wrath Player: From the ashes

Yesterday marked the end of Ask a Beta Tester, and today we begin the rise from the ashes. Like we’ve been saying the last few days, we’re going to continue Ask a Beta Tester under a different name. What name? We don’t know yet. Ask a Wrath Player is what I used today, but is [...]

Unfortunately we ran out of time in our Care and Feeding of Warriors series on gear for Wrath of the Lich King ;ast week, just as we were about to cover the weapons to be looking to acquire. This week, post launch, here’s a concise list of blues to be had in the 70 to [...]

Wrath 101: Horde flight paths in Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight

Previously, we covered the Alliance flight paths of the first three zones in Northrend. Now it’s the Horde’s turn.
Once you’ve gotten to Northrend and possibly taken an awesome turtle boat to your choice of starting zone, you’ll be mostly getting around by Wind Rider (flying mounts, of course, don’t work in Northrend until level 77).
Note [...]

Client patches for Wrath of the Lich King

To play Wrath tonight you’ll need to update the game. The game installs version 3.0.1 when you upgrade to Wrath, and you’ll need to update it version to 3.0.3. That means installing the following two patches:

Version 3.0.1 – > Version 3.0.2
Version 3.0.2 -> Version 3.0.3

You are in luck though and don’t have to wait around [...]

Wrath 101: Level 70 PvP gear

If you were looking forward to getting gear upgrades through Honor at Level 70 when Wrath of the Lich King finally arrives in a few days, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath. I know I advised doing a lot of PvP, but I meant that you should be keeping all that Honor for Level 80 [...]

WoW, Casually: The Dos and Don’ts of speedy leveling before Wrath

Robin Torres writes WoW, Casually for the player with limited playtime.
A lot of people are scurrying to level up before Wrath of the Lich King hits … like me. Some are trying to get their first characters to 55 so that they can make Death Knights. Some are trying to get their first characters to [...]

WOW: Hallow’s End 2008 guide

Hallow’s End is scheduled to begin in a few hours, and you know we loves us some candy. There’s been a big change to the Achievement needed to get the “Hallowed” title (it’s actually gotten a lot easier), the Headless Horseman has a new loot table, and — well, it’s been a year since we’ve [...]

Planning for the Hallow’s End title

A lot of folks found the article on planning for the Brewmaster title helpful, so we thought we’d put one together for the upcoming Hallow’s End holiday as well. Getting all of the sub-Achievements for the Hallowed Be Thy Name Achievement will reward the title “The Hallowed,” but frankly I think this one is going [...]
