The petite Sony Vaio P series, launched in January, are super cool but rather expensive, with prices starting at S$1,299. Thankfully, Sony has released a more affordable netbook series for the masses, the Vaio W (S$899).

This netbook might not be as thin as the P series but it’s good enough for us – measuring slightly over an inch thick and weighing a comfortable 1.19kg (including battery!). The sleek design and smooth round edges of the W series are typical of the Vaio aesthetic.

The netbook features an Intel Atom processor (1.66GHz), a high-resolution (1,366×768) 10.1-inch LED-backlit screen, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and runs on the performance-friendly Windows XP.

Boasting a web camera (640×480 pixels), WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and all sorts of interfaces from USB ports to SD card slot, this is one laptop you will need on the road to keep in touch with friends and family.

Choose from colours of white, pink and brown.
